I would like to personally thank all of you that took time to assist the Post in our fund raisers and community service events. Saying that you are an inspiration is an understatement. You are awesome! I had so much fun with all of you and was thoroughly enriched by your selfless service.
Special thanks to Butch and Jeannie Crawford. The many hours and days spent planning and organizing were impressive. Have a great winter in Texas and we can hardly wait to see you guys in the spring.
Thanks also to the Ladies Auxiliary. I had the pleasure of meeting several of you ladies at the fair. Your service and commitment are greatly appreciated.
The mowing team did a great job. Every year they plug away without fanfare or expectation. Thanks!!
At our September business meeting we voted to pay $12,000 toward the Post debt. We also voted to send money to several veterans programs and the Eagle Scouts. District Commander Gary Jackman visited our post as did District Junior Vice Commander Lynn Rolf III. We extend our thanks and an open invitation to visit us again.
We are set for the Veterans Day parade in Leavenworth. We have the new trailer and pending the responses from you all, we may begin work on restoring the other trailer. Please contact Elmer, Larry, or myself if you plan on attending the parade. We would love to have every member show up so please let us know as early as possible.
On Veterans Day the Veterans Administration is encouraging veterans to wear their medals. It is a great way to show pride in your service and for others to see the service you’ve provided. If you no longer have your medals contact me and I will assist you with the VA in having your medals replaced.
The Department Surgeon will be visiting the Leavenworth VA hospital on Wednesday, 19 November 2008 from 0915 to 1030. If you’re interested in participating meet us at the VA front entrance at 0905 hours. A worthwhile endeavor.
Senator Pat Roberts visit to the Post Home on 12 October was a success. The Senator spoke on the upcoming election, on Veteran issues and the economic crisis. We hope that Congresswoman Nancy Boyda will take time out to visit with us and discuss the same issues.
The next time you drive into Tonganoxie from the north on County Road 5 look up after passing under the bridge at 24/40 Highway. The first thing you see is the American Flag waving in the wind on probably the largest flag pole in Kansas. Then comes the VFW sign welcoming you to Tonganoxie. I commute to Fort Leavenworth daily and I cherish this welcome home.
Looking forward to seeing you at the next monthly meeting or sooner if you can help out with one or more of our many projects.
Sincerely,
Dan Hopkins Junior Vice Commander |
