MEETING: September 10th, 2008 @ 7:30 PM

     Comrades,

It’s time for another meeting, September 10th 7:30pm. We will have our annual District inspection, wear your official VFW caps. Let’s have a good turn out.

Our Car show, Garage Sale, and the Fair Food Stand were big successes (Butch will give us a report). We fixed one of our troop carriers and had it in the county fair parade, it sure is nice. We are planning to use it Nov. 11th in the Veterans Day Parade at Leavenworth. Let us know if you plan on riding on the float, if we can get enough members we will fix the other trailer so we can have two units. Again, let us know if you’ll be participating.

We will conduct our annual appreciation day at the B. & J. Country Mart again this year September 12th, 11:00am to 1:00pm, we’ll need at least 7 comrades to participate.

The Ladies Auxiliary will have biscuits & gravy on New Years Day.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 6th, the annual Post Christmas Party. We will have the food catered and Butch will return from Texas to DJ the Dance.

MEETING: October 8th, 2008 @ 7:30 PM

     Comrades,

Our next business meeting is Wednesday, 8 Oct at 7:30pm.  We have some important planning and coordination that must be done before the Veteran’s Day Holiday.  Let’s have a good turn out.

We will use the new carrier for the parade. We hope that we have enough interest to warrant a project to restore the other carrier. The Leavenworth Veterans Day Parade is one of the oldest, largest parades in the nation. It is an honor to participate in such a patriotic event. Please let us know if you will join us at the parade.

We still need to put the Flag inserts at Maple Grove Cemetery. They will furnish the material and we do the labor. If you can help let Larry know as we need help.

The Country Mart Appreciation day and Digger Dan were cancelled due to rain.

The 10th and 11th of October will be the annual Ike Vigil at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene Kansas. Our time this year is not very good. We will begin our vigil between 00:40 (12:40 A.M.) and 02:30 (2:30 A.M.) on the 11th of October. We need to know by the business meeting if you plan on attending so we can plan transportation accordingly.

District 1 will meet on the 25th of October in Meriden, the next District Meeting will be hosted by us (Post 9271) on 18 April.  We always have a good turn out, lets have a great turn out this time before we host the spring meeting.

Tonganoxie High School Football home games are an exciting time. We need as many members as possible to show up and support the posting of the colors. For many in our community it is one of the few times they get to see a military color guard. Put on your grey slacks, a blue blazer, white shirt, black or VFW tie and your VFW cap and join us. It is a very rewarding endeavor worth the effort to render proper respect to our great nation and her flag.  (17 and 30 October are the next home games)

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 6th, the annual Post Christmas Party. We will have the food catered and Butch will return from Texas to DJ the Dance. We will begin selling tickets soon to assist us with the head count for the caterers.

The Ladies Auxiliary will have their annual biscuits and gravy meal on News Years Day.
